The New Kid on the (GA) Block

A new year for me meant a new school. Switching from public school to GA was intimidating at first, but as March commences, I can honestly say that I made the right choice.

When I first applied to GA, I was unsure of what to expect. After taking a tour and shadowing, I had a pretty clear image of what school life would be like and how different it was from what I had grown accustomed to. At GA, you are encouraged to fulfill your interests. There is an activity for every type of student here. Teachers do more than just feed you knowledge, they help you every step of the way in order to give you the best possible education. There are even other highschoolers who are more than willing to help you, whether it be at the writing center, tutoring, or with any of your concerns.

Another huge change for me was how close everyone is at GA. The GA community is one that does not accept any unkindness. After being here for only a few months, I can say that I am comfortable around everybody because they accept me for me and encourage you to be yourself. GA is not just a place to learn, it is a place to have fun and follow your dreams!

The mastermind behind the PatChat logo....

Hey everyone! My name is Cori R. ('12) and I have attended GA since the second grade. I am President of the Jewish Culture Club, an editor of GA's yearbook, Ye Primer, a leader of Ethical Discussions Club, a senior leader of CSO, an honors visual arts student, and a Co-Captain of the Cheerleading squad.

While creating the logo for the GA admissions blog, I strove to portray the fun spirited side of GA. GA has a strong community and I really wanted to demonstrate that togetherness!

The Five W's of PatChat

Welcome to the world of PatChat! We are excited to present to you the first official Germantown Academy Admission blog...designed by our students.

Upon joining the blogging community, we wanted the stories, the adventures, the tales, and the experiences to come directly from the students. Who better to tell the story of GA than those who live it every day?

There's an old concept in journalism that when you set out to write an engaging and informative story (or a blog, in this case), you must cover the Five W’s: Who, What, When, Where, and Why.  Therefore, we present to you, the Five W's of PatChat...

WHO: The students. We want to give students the opportunity to share their personal stories about life here at GA.

WHAT: Students are encouraged to blog about anything and everything that relates to their experiences at GA.

WHERE: Whether out at The Preserve, working at a Community Service event, playing in or watching a Patriots basketball game, sitting in on an interesting biology class, or at home during winter break...students will share the moment.

WHEN: PatChat is for you...the readers. As a blog reader, some of the most entertaining entries come from those least expected events/experiences. We advise our students to blog a little or blog a lot...whenever they feel an experience is worth capturing and sharing with the PatChat world.

WHY: Why PatChat? Every year, when prospective families come to visit Germantown Academy for an Admission event or visit day, they rave about our student tour guides. Specifically about how open, honest, enthusiastic and confident they all are. With that in mind, GA wants to take the tours and student panels “live” with PatChat. Readers can expect blog entries that are creative, fun, and real. Most importantly, the readers will be able to see the students true GA colors shine through in their writing.

So sit back, relax, and enjoy a daily dose of PatChat. Happy reading!
